For more than five decades, the Monroe Symphony Orchestra has provided live symphonic music of high artistic quality for the education and enjoyment of the people of Northeast Louisiana. The Symphony’s goals have included collaboration with other local and regional arts groups, bringing artists of national reputation to the community, providing opportunities to recognize talented, young Louisiana artists, and providing concerts that appeal to all segments of the population.

The Monroe Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1971, was organized as a community orchestra. Its core group of musicians are culled from the surrounding area and the University of Louisiana, Monroe. Many of its musicians are professors of music as well as professionals who have played in the orchestra for a number of years.

The MSO seeks to continue its record of excellence in music that meets the highest artistic achievement. Through symphonic music, the organization knows it can provide the community with a shared sense of pride and belonging to something bigger than any one person can achieve alone. The MSO offers audiences the wonder of live music and its transformative quality.
