Welcome Maestro
John Hodges!
Here's the official press release of Maestro John Mason Hodges' Appointment for the 2025-2026 Season.
Meet the Maestro
Maestro John Mason Hodges joins the Monroe Symphony Orchestra as Conductor and Music Director for the 2025–2026 season. Based in Memphis, Tennessee, Hodges is a seasoned conductor, composer, and lecturer with over four decades of experience. He studied under Leonard Bernstein and earned his graduate degree in music from Indiana University. Over the years, he has conducted orchestras and choruses throughout the U.S. and abroad, including guest appearances with ensembles in Ukraine. In addition to his work on the podium, Hodges has lectured internationally on music, aesthetics, and culture, and previously served as Associate Professor of Arts and Culture at Crichton College. He is also the co-creator and composer of GOLDEN, a new musical currently in development in New York City.

Orchestral music ranks up there with great plays, epic poetry, and the medieval cathedrals as the very height of human expression. In the orchestral repertoire of the last 500+ years, composers have used the language of music and the instruments of the orchestra to investigate and convey the joys and sorrows, the loves and sufferings, the humor and the chaos of human experience. I am delighted when I anticipate working with the MSO this next season to explore and express some of these great works together with the musicians and audiences in northeast Louisiana.
