Education has been part of the orchestra’s mission from the beginning — the enjoyment and education of northeast Louisiana.
The Monroe Symphony Orchestra believes the wonder of live music belongs to everyone — and that it should reach listeners early.
Through outreach concerts, the Youth Orchestra, and the Emerging Artist Competition, the orchestra opens the door to symphonic music for students, families, and young musicians throughout the region. This programming is made possible in part by an LPG grant supporting educational outreach.

Prokofiev’s beloved Peter and the Wolf introduces the instruments of the orchestra to young audiences — each character a different voice in the ensemble. The orchestra’s flagship outreach concert brings live symphonic music to children and families across northeast Louisiana.
Ensemble training and mentorship for the region’s most dedicated young players, established 1973–74.
The Marjorie Stricklin competition gives young Louisiana musicians the chance to solo with the full orchestra.
